The Museum
Steyning Museum celebrates and shares the fascinating stories of Steyning and its surrounding villages. We have an intriguing tale to tell through the ages, back to the Saxons and beyond.
Steyning Museum is free to enter and open to the public 5 days a week, plus some bank-holidays.
The museum is run entirely by our 82 loyal volunteers in a variety of roles.
Everyday matters are the responsibility of the museum’s management committee, who meet monthly and report to the Trustees.
The Museum is fully accessible to all ages and abilities
We offer a range of services and activities, both in and beyond the museum. These include:
- Education for both adults and children, including care-homes
- Research such as family and house histories
- Grave-finding, with histories for each
- Recording oral histories of long-term residents
- Hosting university professors and students for their research
- Hub for the annual Steyning Arts trail
- Providing a display for Steyning’s Food and Drink Festival
- Close links with our parish church, with representation on its liaison committee
- Involvement in Steyning Festival, etc.
- We write monthly articles in our local magazine
- A variety of interactive and multi-sensory activities for all ages
- A children’s corner, opened by Julia Donaldson who lives nearby
THE ROLE OF A TRUSTEE
