Steyning Museum has a project team dedicated to preserving an archive of local memories. These range from stories of being employed for the first time, looking after sheep, horses or televisions to the bomb that dropped on Church Street during WWII.

A selection of stories have been presented on the museum website and you can access them here.

The team has also been preparing extracts to go on a listening post alongside the display in the museum about the closure of Steyning Grammar School Church Street site. These stories from early boarders, pupils and teachers should make interesting listening.

The team is now keen to hear from those who have memories of the death of King George VI and the accession of Elizabeth. This is one project. A second relates to the coronation the following year. Anyone who would like to contribute a memory to the team should contact

Come along and see for yourself. We are open from 10am to 4pm Wednesday to Sunday
