"Industry"

Gas holder

The exhibition looks at the various industries mainly in the Steyning area but also includes the Upper Beeding Cement Works. There are several images that have not been displayed in the museum before, particularly of the Tannery in Tanyard Lane.

Other topics include the Gas Works, Electric works, milling, clock making, the Forge, railway, brewing and construction. There are some wonderful images of local folk hard at work in trades that have disappeared. 

The exhibition is on show from late May onwards.

The annual nationwide museum art activity for children. (October)

"Childhood Past"

A reflection on the childhood of yesteryear which will include
“The Old Curiosity Shop” – a recreation of toy shop goods through the Victorian period to approximately the 1960s.
The exhibition will also look at child poverty and labour.
